Francesco Durante | Requiem & Pergolesi | Stabat mater
Oxford Baroque and Christ Church Cathedral Choir once again combine to perform the unjustly neglected C-minor Requiem by early eighteenth-century Neapolitan composer Francesco Durante, in a brand new edition by Stephen Darlington, who has devoted several years to answering many of the textual questions posed by this powerful work. It is performed alongside a better-known work by one of Durante’s best-known pupils, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s profoundly moving Stabat mater.
A talented team of soloists are headed by The Sixteen’s Alexandra Kidgell and exceptional young countertenor James Hall. Christ Church Cathedral Choir is one of the finest cathedral choirs in the world, famous for the youthfulness of its sound and its daring and adventurous musical programming.
This concert is part of the Oxford Early Music Festival 2016.
